Fashion Student Takes London Fashion Week
Published: March 1, 2017
When you’re a fashion student with only a tiny bit of your foot inside the industry, getting invites to shows or other events during London Fashion Week can be difficult. The key is to naturally gain connections through previous internships, but also to stay in contact to work at various shows. Volunteer to work front of house and you’ll be 99% guaranteed to watch the show, plus you may get to seat some A-list celebrities.
MakeupPlus Launch at Lights of Soho
My London Fashion Week started off at an early bird event, organised by makeup app ‘MakeupPlus’, who were launching the Ultimate Beauty Destination during fashion week. The event was filled with cool bloggers and industry people, with amazing food and various drinks being offered.
The event was held at Lights of Soho, which is a fun art gallery and private members club bar, that features a ton of neon signs on the walls. Makes for the perfect Instagram post. Downstairs they were doing fabulous hair and makeup for guests, which they also carried on doing throughout all of LFW for anyone who popped by.
Cross Cashmere Showroom at Groucho Club
I had just gotten home and had lunch with a dear friend when I decided to check my DM’s on Insta. Never know who’s going to be lurking there. To my surprise a PR agency had contacted me, asking if I would like to stop by the Cross Cashmere showroom to try on and be photographed in some beautiful unisex cashmere products. I naturally jumped on the chance and I suddenly found myself heading back to Soho.
Mary Katrantzou AW17 Runway show
Last summer I was lucky enough to intern with Mary Katrantzou for a couple of months. For the AW17 show they asked if I wanted to come back and work for the day, which I gladly accepted. By doing so I got to greet tons of fabulous people like Olivia Palermo, Suzy Menkes, Derek Blasberg and many more.
After the show it was a quick trip home, change outfits in 5 minutes, before it was out the door to first the Mary Katrantzou after party at Shoreditch House, followed by the Diesel “Make Love Not Walls” party.
Another one of my exciting projects is writing weekly for Entnsterribles. When they asked me if I wanted to go to the Diesel “Make Love Not Walls” to cover it for social media, I very happily said yes. And am I ever happy I did! I was surrounded by fabulous, eccentric people, gorgeous models and incredible people like Naomi Campbell, Justine Skye and Daniel Lismore. What a night it was!
Osman AW17 Runway Show
On Monday, when my body was sweating out Patron Tequila from last night, I was at the Osman AW17 show working front of house and seating guests once again. It was a fabulous, glittering show with models of ages and ethnicities, which was incredible powerful to see! Amazing to see the increase in diversity in fashion on the runways of London Fashion Week.
Unfortunately, later in the day I fell ill with food poisoning – resulting in me not being able to go to the LOVE magazine party. Absolutely gutted to miss out on that party, but hey – there will always be another London Fashion Week!
